Ezio Tiburzio Anichini’s legendary artworks give shape to this amazing Oracle deck, displaying all the style and charm of old Florentine lithographies – a chemical printing technique that acquired great fame during the 1800s, and was particularly popular among cover artists of Scena Illustrata, a historic Italian magazine dedicated to literature and high culture. The images portray angelic or holy figures filled with religious significance: in fact, each card hosts one of the 46 verses of the Litany of Loreto, perfectly inscribed into the halos and the backgrounds of the sacred scene. This ancient Latin litany takes its name from the shrine at the Basilica of Loreto, where it has been recited since the mid-sixteenth century. The divine subjects depicted in the cards surround this deck with an angelic aura that enhances both the artistic and the divinatory qualities of this Oracle.
Journalist and author Pierluigi Serra has written for newspapers, magazines and made documentaries for television. He has dealt with esotericism and the phenomena related to magic and spirituality for several years. Born in Florence in 1886, Ezio Anichini worked as an illustrator for the famous Tuscan paper Scena Illustrata and produced numerous posters for theatrical plays. He mastered the lithographic method of printing, a popular technique of the time.
